Babies with any of a range of respiratory conditions need to have slightly pressurised air supplied throughout the breathing cycle. Nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP ) is a means of providing this air through the nose of the baby. nCPAP  is widely used as more comfortable alternative to relatively invasive therapies, intubation and mechanical ventilation. It is suitable even for very low birth weight infants.
